About the Baker

Sara Somes was born in Nacogdoches, TX. There, she attended Stephen F. Austin State University and received a Bachelor of Science in home economics with a minor in business. She later moved to rural Maine with her family, where she raised her four kids and started several successful small businesses. When her children were school age, she continued her studies at the University of Southern Maine and obtained a Master of Science in Education, allowing her to work full-time as a Special Education teacher. During the summers, she developed her culinary skills by working in a local bakery, where she made pastries with wild blueberries that grow in the fields of Maine. It was there that she dreamt of one day moving back to her home state of Texas to start her own bakery.

 

In 2022, Sara sold her home in rural Maine and settled in Bulverde, TX, to begin the next chapter of her life. She worked several years at a retail clothing store before realizing she could no longer put her dreams on hold. She left her job and immediately began fleshing out her vision for what would become Texas Boot Bakery. Now in her late 50’s, she is a business owner for the fourth time in her life.

 

When she’s not baking, Sara loves spending time with family and friends, experiencing the hill country, goats, longhorns, barbecue, and the rich culture of her beloved Texas. She finds pleasure in conversations with people, in showing hospitality, and in bringing people closer to one another when they share special memories enjoying what she bakes. She feels that opening Texas Boot Bakery is in some ways the culmination of her journey of faith. As she has responded to the calling on her life, she has become increasingly aware of the guiding hand of God.
